That is true but our country is ran by said misers. I would say for the vast majority of folks, our wants as a society are fairly close if you exclude religious beliefs. This is why a self governing nation is our only real choice. Regardless of your political views, what we have now is a country controlled by few. That is not how a republic for the people is supposed to be ran.
