Only way you can securely wipe it is to take the drive apart. Separate the platters and then take steel wool or some other abrasive, and scuff the hell out of both sides. That will make them completely unreadable by anything.

Eraser is good. Get an older version though. Worst is Evidence Eliminator, I've had a few hard drives that shat the bed because of the horrible way it works.
