For real man....We once believed that disease was caused by demons and prosecuted people for heresy for claiming that the earth was not the center of the universe. EVERYONE believed those things.... so they must be true right?!

The people who wrote the Bible believed dragons, giants, and sea monsters were real, and that the sky was full of water. And for many centuries, most people agreed.

But... The sky IS full of water...? See those things floating along outside in the sky... What're they called again? Oh, clouds.

It's got nothing to do with clouds. The idea was that the heavens were a vast ocean akin to the terrestrial oceans, and God's intervention in constructing the "firmament" was the only thing that prevented the waters of the heaven-ocean from crashing down and inundating the earth. As such, the heavens-as-ocean belief is also a major component of the Noah's flood story.
