Dogs frequently lick/eat their own shit, pigs roll in it if mud is not available, cats (well, pretty much all animals) frequently lick their own shit while grooming, and monkeys play with shit.
Where did you get the mistaken impression that animals avoid it?

I get that you are disgusted by people eating or rubbing shit all over themselves, that is a very disturbing thing for virgin eyes to witness, but don't outright lie to people. I mean, what would your mother think. :P

(PS: I thought I was numbed to disturbing shit long ago... Almost threw up when I saw Two Girls One Cup... didn't help that I was eating at the time.)
