Happy Pride month, or as I like to call it, Fuck Whoever I Want To Month And There's Nothing Anyone Can Say About It

While I comment mostly on politics here, there is a PBS program that I'd like to discuss that I believe deserves mention for its stellar presentation, and narration;

The Pioneers of Television

I have a tremendous respect and admiration, nay a soft spot, for the generations that have come before me. One of the generations I admire most is, The Greatest Generation. These people grew up in an America, and also a Germany, an England, an India, a Brazil, very different from the ones that we know today. As an American, I'll speak from what I know of in my own country. Many of The Greatest Generation grew up as what we would consider today as abysmally poor. A good deal of them grew up in homes without electricity, much less any other modern convenience.

When their country called on them during WWII, they not only willingly left their homes & everything they knew, many for the first time, but did so patriotically even going to fight for the freedoms of other countries like France, Holland, England, The Phillippines, and etc. Many of these brave men still lie in graves scattered all around the world. The wives and girlfriends worked tirelessly in munitions and airplane factories to support their country. When they came home with their battle scars, they and their wives made families and set about, without complaint, to built the most free and prosperous country the world had ever known. They saw to it that they and their neighbors were clothed and fed. They built and housed their families in the best housing they could afford. They brought us arguably the most fantastically styled cars in history during the 1950's. Art, culture and education exploided with The Greatest Generation. They dressed with pride and treated one another respectfully. And all of this was done through hard work, sheer grit & determination, and rugged individualism.

When television first began in the last 1940's, no one, including the fledgling televison industry, knew quite what it should be. I know in todays world of laptops, iPhones, & tablets that seems amazing. Many of the first t.v. shows were current/ events / news shows, or the comedy of successful, well established Vaudeville & radio acts bringing their routines to the small screen. Shortly after this, the idea of playing games on t.v. for the viewer to watch was given a try. To gain viewer interest, producers gave prizes away to contestants, &/or they showed known celebrities playing the game as with one of the first t.v. game shows, "What's My Line?".

For me, seeing well established old time Vaudevillians like Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Milton "Uncle Milty" Berle, Jackie Gleason, & Red Skelton working their hearts out to make people laugh on live t.v. is still some of the best television ever! And it was ALL live! If a performer screwed up....guess what?... it was seen by thousands, & sometimes millions of people. My favorite all time television moment happened late one night, long before I was even born. A young comedian took a chance and decided to host a show that came on late at night when all the other stations where off the air, showing test patterns. The show was called "Tonight!" on the National Broadcasting Network (NBC). The young comedian was the late, Steve Allen. It was a big risk, because who knew if hard working Americans in the late 1950's would stay up to watch t.v. that late at night? In those days of live t.v., most of the shows had monitors off camera, so that the performer could see what the viewer was seeing, and could then make any adjustments to the performance that might be needed. As he began his routine, Mr. Allen glanced into the live monitor and got a glimpse of how ridiculous he looked. This single item became the downfall of the segment for Steve Allen, and gave us one of the singularly most hilarious moments in television history! I've seen this probably 100 times, & it still makes me laugh so hard that it brings me to tears:

For me, old t.v. shows, old movies, & books are like a time machine into our shared past. With life as busy as it is today, it's sort of like we're all living in a fog. What these programs & movies do for us is they give us a "magic sword". We're able to take that sword, cut through the fog of modern life, and have a clear view, almost magically of what came before us, like a window. In Jan. 2013 PBS will be replaying these epic shows. So folks I encourage you to stop, take a moment and make yourself some popcorn, and sit down with me to enjoy and revel in the history of The Greatest Generation & the wonderment of,

Finding Daddy in a Good Girl

Hello, Everyone,

From the first person, so a lot of I me my... Am working through a painful D/s breakup and was hoping this would help others, so you're the I me my.

After the blind-siding end of a second long-term DD/lg relationship-- the first a 10-year marriage (not surprising), the last a 10-month 24/7 LDR (breathtakingly surprising. Does 10 months count as long-term?)-- and finding once again that I was moaning about passive-aggressive, narcissistic pussies who THINK they're Daddy Doms but are really submissive cowards, I made myself very quiet and asked myself exactly what I thought a good Daddy was.

As a result, instead of moaning some more, crying into my pillow, or sending him a bajillion texts asking him why he was being such a cunt and letting him talk me back into the relationship (or, rather, manipulate me into talking myself back into the relationship), I went out on a tear (thank God for New Orleans), sloshed home to create a FetLife account, joined some relevant groups, contacted a couple of local people who seemed like they knew their way around the scene, and read myself back into soberville for almost 24 hours straight. And then, I started a list of the qualities I thought were essential in a Daddy Dom.

The list of words became fairly lengthy, so I started a taxonomy and they ended up fitting into groups of three. I'm sure the information architect in me (yes, I'm a geek, shut up.) will further categorize these groups, but it just began to seem... I don't know, lyrical. And then, the word, "compassionate" started resonating. First, my eyes were drawn again and again to that 13-letter composition, and then the sound of its 4 syllables echoed fluidly in my head like water moving, and finally that reciprocal beating of the rhythm of the word with my heart that happens when my body's trying to tell me something began.

It occurred to me that it might be the little girl in me that was trying to soften toward him again after he betrayed my trust for the 4th time in as many months. But no, that softening wasn't happening this time (and still isn't, thank you very much). While thinking about this, the question, "What exactly is a Good Girl?" started whispering, and a new list began. And, guess what?

The lists are virtually identical.

To an independent, perceptive, dominant woman in all other aspects of life, this shouldn't have been the epiphany that it was. How could a woman who prides herself on her unerring spidey sense and strength of character be suckered in by not one, but two men of low character who manipulated the very D/s abandon that led her to them initially?

And that's when I realized that compassion wasn't supposed to be reserved solely for others. Unless you consider the little girl inside of a strong woman to be other. And, I don't anymore. That little girl, I, deserve(s) the same compassion, forgiveness and understanding as Daddy does. A Good Girl requires a Daddy with a strength of character to match her own. Even if that requisite reciprocity comes from being her own Daddy while she searches for the man who truly deserves and appreciates her considerable love, power and control.

So, sit tight, little girl. You've got everything you need in the interim.

To the 'so called' Native American Indian who feels it is perfectly acceptable for Illegal Aliens to Not only be here ILLEGALLY, but (obviously) feels that they should be given the Key to the City, simply b/c they are Still here... What part of ILLEGAL do YOU Not get? Yes, other people came here, many years ago, and once it become a Settled Colony, there became Rules and Laws. There is a REASON why ALL nations have Laws and Rules, and regardless of whether You believe in them in or not, they MUST be followed! If you were to board a plane and go anywhere outside the USA, YOU would be expected to Follow the Laws and Rules of wherever you are. This is the 2013, and the Laws regarding Immigration have been in place, in this Country, for MANY years! BOTH sets of my Grandparents came here, to the USA, and when they boarded the ships that brought them here, they came through Ellis Island...knowing that there may be chance that they would NOT be accepted, and knowing that, they would have LEFT if they had been refused entry to this country. Thankfully, they were accepted, and they the Minute they got here, they LEARNED TO SPEAK ENGLISH! They did NOT expect ANYONE to learn Their language! They Immediately got JOBS...they did NOT expect Anyone to support them (be it in food, rent, etc). They felt that by accepting Assistance, it would be demeaning, and would make them appear weak and unable to get to their "Dream" of being a Self Supporting AMERICAN! You see, here's the difference...These ILLEGALS are NOT interested in being AMERICANS, the way my Grandparents were. For my Grandparents, that was the Ultimate dream come true...to BE an American...NOT an Italian American, or a Canadian American, or a German American...JUST an American! However, with these Illegals, they don't give a flying a Fuck about being an American...they are simply here SUCKING THE TEAT of Americans, and DRAINING us DRY! They have NO American Pride (note All the Mexican flags in their illegal cars, hanging from their mirror). As for them wanting to work...the vast majority of them send their earnings BACK to family members in THEIR own country...(Meaning: they are NOT spending it HERE to keep OUR economy going)! And, as their driving Illegally (no insurance, no registration). WHO do you think picks up the tab when these Illegals have car accidents? WE DO! (be it in the form of OUR insurance rates going up, or in the medical services that are needed that They can't pay for, b/c they are NOT insured). WAKE UP, Chief Foot in your Mouth! The fact that you claim to be a Native American, means nothing...you are supposed to be AMERICAN! And, when some group of people are Destroying America, then ALL Americans' need to band together and PROTECT America! But, maybe your brain just doesn't get that... So, when YOU have to start learning to speak Spanish, I hope you remember this conversation...b/c even then, your status won't mean Shit!
