I recently got back from Iraq 4 months ago. I was stationed in Baghdad we were on a normal patrol and A squad was pinned down by small arms fire from a 2 story building. We came from behind the building and went through the back door as we were moving through the house the bottom floor was clear. We made are way up the stairs, and I was on point. I peeked around the corner at the top of the stair set only to see bullets flying right by my head from a room all the way down the hall. So the squad leader Sgt Madison ordered the saw gunner to give me cover while I threw a frag so he pops out just spraying with the saw, and I pulled the pin and threw 2 grenades into that room. As soon as I got the grenades off the saw gunner popped back in and we continued clearing out the house there were 3 people in the first room to the left I shot one Sgt Madison shot one and the other surrendered. The second room was clear. We made are way to the back room where I threw the grenades I ran in and saw one dead man with and ak47 near is right arm. One woman face down in a puddle of blood. A child no older than 5 laying against the counter with his head at a downward angle and blood leaking out his mouth, and about 5 feet to the left of the woman was a baby it was very young looking. I looked down into its eyes as it laid there covered in blood not moving. Then we left the house and continued out patrol where I got 4 more confirmed kills that day, but I will never forget when I looked into the eyes of that baby knowing I killed it, and knowing it was just because one man was trying to protect its family. I personally am against the war in Iraq not because its stupid that were over there or anything like that, but the fact that men do these things and have to live with it the rest of there lives. Nobody but me Sgt Madison and the rest of that squad know about that day.
