Size and determining whether or not it was a blood sucking species would narrow your choices down.

@dutchkinker that would make sense.I have found them in my backyard in arkansas.After a very heavy rains, they literally are just deep in the mud.

This one is almost certainly a Hor-se Leech (scientific name: Haemopis sanguisuga).
Instead of sucking blood, these guys are active predators. They use that long, searching snout to hunt down small snails, earthworms, insect larvae, and tadpoles, swallowing them whole. Because they hunt earthworms, it's very common to find them crawling out of the water onto damp mud or under logs.
